How to build a Miniature Solar Car

As the technology is advancing and our natural resources are getting narrow day by day, people are looking forward to newer technologies that are economic yet effective. Solar power is such a technology that converts the ray of sunlight into electricity. The sunlight heats up photons in a solar panel which creates the flow of electrons thus electricity is created. Solar energy is endless and can be an excellent source of electricity. Although the creation of a solar car is much costly, you can easily make a miniature solar car that runs on sunlight power.

 

Instructions

 

1. Get a cardboard and cut out the pieces to form a box shape or you can even get a shoe box from anywhere possible. Any type of box can be used for this purpose as the box will be the working as the body of the car.

 

2. Purchase two 2 by 2 inch solar panels, toy wheel for the car and a small motor used in electronic toys.

 

3. Place the solar panels on top of the box car shape that you have or you can place it on both the side of the rectangular box. Placing the panels should be done in such places where greater amount of sunlight can reach.

 

4. Either glue the solar panels or use double sticky tape to position the panels on the box. Never use normal tape as it will hamper the solar panels working procedure by not letting adequate sunlight fall on it.

 

5. Put the motor under the box and attach it safely. Connect the wires from the solar panels to the motor and see if it’s working properly. If it doesn’t work then change the positioning of the wires to check.

 

6. Now adding the wheels is simple yet a bit complicated, you will need to attach the wheels to the motor with the help of an axle. Connect the axle with the motor and then join the wheels to the axle. So when the motor will run, the axle will revolve and tires will also start rotating thus making the car run.

 

7. The more solar panels you are able to add the more powerful your car will get. You can use several solar panels and a big motor to make a larger car. This same technique is used in larger proportions to make solar powered cars for streets and racing purposes.
